Former Applicant Hired as Job Counselor

We’d like to introduce Claribelisse (Clary) Colon, who started as a Job Counselor at Jubilee Jobs on July 19th. Clary was born in Puerto Rico and spent part of her childhood in Germany, since her mother was in the Army, and graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School in DC. She has two daughters, ages 4 and 11.

Clary brings to Jubilee Jobs her excellent interpersonal and administrative skills that she developed during her 10 years working in property management and leasing. She has managed large residential complexes of up to 1,500 apartments. A people person at heart, she loved working with the residents. She managed resident relations and retention and went above and beyond by helping residents access benefits such as food stamps/SNAP and unemployment to help them retain housing.

Last year, Clary came to Jubilee Jobs as an applicant. When her Job Counselor DeSean Lawson asked her what kind of job she was looking for, Clary asked, "How do I get your job?”. Clary was quickly placed at TJ Maxx in the asset protection department and regularly attended Job Friends, Jubilee Jobs’ monthly virtual gatherings for people placed in jobs. Clary was full of energy and made quite an impression on the Jubilee Jobs staff!

Clary was drawn to the Job Counselor position because she knew that her skills were a match, and she was ready to take on a new challenge. She appreciated the help she received from Jubilee Jobs and was eager to work for an organization that provides direct help to people in need. She is also very happy to be giving back to the Latinx community by using her Spanish. When asked how it’s going so far, Clary says, “It’s great. I love being able to help someone get power. Last week I placed an immigrant who’d only been in the U.S. for a few months. This was his first job! It’s a wonderful feeling to help people.”

Welcome, Clary!
