Reflections on These Times
By Terry Flood, Jubilee Jobs Founder
Little did we know that the suffering and fear of the pandemic was preparing us for another thunderbolt hitting at the core of our existence. The pandemic already revealed gross and pervasive economic inequity in the United States as the poor and people of color became the victims of the majority of illnesses and death from the disease.
In the midst of our grief and uncertainty we were stunned by the horrific death of George Floyd’s death from choke hold by a Minneapolis policeman.
Over the years the Jubilee Jobs mission of helping persons to find work for sustenance, dignity and hope has also been accompanied by anger and tears of the injustice permeating the life history of so many applicants. Every resume over all the years has carried between the lines the history of the inequities, racial discrimination and oppression of our society.
The world is awakening to desperately needed changes. We believe this is a New Day. Our spirits are filled with energy and hope for meaningful work to provide sustenance, dignity and hope for every applicant.
